The five stages

  1. Selection

Who we let wear the crest.

  2. Training

    One month, eleven disciplines.

  3. Deployment

    Briefed, equipped, on time.

  4. Supervision

    Checked by the hour.

  5. Appraisal

    Good guards are rewarded.

Stage 1: Selection

Who we let wear the crest.

We choose guards for their education, discipline, professionalism and skills. Every candidate must meet all of these:

  • Minimum high school certificate
  • Valid national ID
  • Recommendation from your LC1
  • Recommendation from three referees
  • Physically fit, 18 years or older
  • A map of your home area
  • Neat, clean and presentable
  • Able to speak and write English
  • Able to work 12-hour shifts
  • Fingerprinted, with police involved in recruitment

Stage 2: Training

One month, eleven disciplines.

New recruits complete a month of intensive training. Only those who finish all of it are deployed.

  • Neptune’s values, mission, goals and vision
  • The role and functions of a private security officer
  • Fire-fighting, prevention and control
  • Radio and telephone communication
  • Guarding and patrolling
  • General first aid
  • Basic legal requirements
  • Self-defence
  • Public relations and customer care
  • Discipline
  • Report writing

Stage 3: Deployment

Briefed, equipped, on time.

Image is everything and a first impression lasts, so every deployment follows the same routine.

  • Deployed in full uniform, every shift.
  • Daily briefing before deployment is mandatory.
  • Day shift is deployed at 06:30 to take over at 07:00.
  • Night shift is deployed at 16:30 to take over between 17:00 and 18:00.
  • 12-hour shifts, six days a week, with one rest day.
  • All stationery and equipment provided.
  • Continuous coaching on site and at parades: customer care, smartness, hygiene and security concerns.

Issued to every guard

  • Log book
  • Baton
  • Pepper spray
  • Handcuffs
  • Torch
  • Raincoat
  • Gumboots

Stage 4: Supervision

Checked by the hour.

Supervision runs around the clock, in person and through the patrol system at your site.

One supervisor for every ten guards.

  • Guards report for parade on site 30 minutes before deployment.
  • Guards are monitored for intoxication throughout their shift.
  • No personal phone use on duty, only security communication.
  • Night supervisors visit sites by motorbike to check guards are alert.
  • Remote supervision devices give management visibility of off-site locations.
  • Patrol checkpoints (PBTS) at your premises: guards clock in every hour.
  • After every shift, Neptune or the client can download the patrol log.

Stage 5: Appraisal

Good guards are rewarded.

Performance is scored every month, so the best guards stay and grow with us.

  • A monthly score sheet tracks every guard’s performance.
  • One supervisor for every ten guards.
  • The best three guards each month are rewarded.
  • Annual salary increments, and a salary structure from junior staff to senior officers.
